In Alaska, there are two significant Army bases:
- Fort Wainwright: Located adjacent to Fairbanks in the interior region of Alaska, Fort Wainwright serves as a launching point for strategic Arctic operations. It is home to the United States Army Garrison and United States Army Alaska (USARAK) units.
- Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER): Situated near Anchorage, this base combines elements from all military branches but primarily hosts Air Force and Army personnel. Critical army units include elements of USARAK, like airborne infantry brigade combat teams.
Both bases provide critical capabilities regarding rapid response times and strategic positioning due to their geographic location relative to potential global hotspots within Asia-Pacific theater – making them essential assets within our defense infrastructure.
