Meet Shawn Ryan, A Decorated Navy SEAL with a Passion for Teaching Resilience

Shawn Ryan is a former Navy SEAL with an illustrious career spanning over two decades. Having served in the US Navy from 1994 to 2016, Ryan became a renowned author, speaker, and leadership coach. This notable veteran has leveraged his experiences to educate and inspire others on resilience, leadership, and overcoming adversity.

Early Life and Navy Career

Born on February 14, 1974, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Shawn Ryan grew up in a military family. His father, a Navy Commander, instilled in him the importance of service and discipline from a young age. Ryan graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1994, earning a Bachelor’s in Political Science.

Ryan’s career in the Navy began immediately after graduation. He completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in 1995, earning his Trident Pin and the title of Navy SEAL. Throughout his service, Ryan participated in numerous combat operations, including the War in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Shawn Ryan’s remarkable service earned him numerous decorations, including:

Life After the Navy

After retiring from the Navy in 2016, Ryan shifted his focus to empowering individuals and organizations through teaching resilience and leadership. As a sought-after speaker, he has addressed top companies, government agencies, and academic institutions, sharing his expertise on peak performance, risk management, and crisis leadership.

Ryan has also co-authored two books: Battling the-active Shooter, which offers strategies for confronting active shooter scenarios, and It’s How to Stay in the Fired-Up Phase of Mastery, a guide to building resilience and achieving personal growth.

Through his work, Shawn Ryan continues to inspire and educate, serving as a beacon of hope for those seeking to overcome adversity and reach their full potential.

The Shawn Ryan Show is all about telling real stories about real people. From fellow veterans to entrepreneurs, athletes to activists, Ryan sits down with a diverse range of guests to discuss their experiences and insights.

One of my favorite episodes featured Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent author, attorney, and activist. Kennedy opened up about his family’s long history of public service, his work fighting corruption, and his controversial views on various issues. It was a fascinating conversation that gave me a lot to think about.

Unfiltered Conversations

I love that the Shawn Ryan Show doesn’t shy away from tough topics or differing opinions. Ryan has a knack for asking the hard questions and engaging in frank discussions with his guests.

In his episode with journalist Tucker Carlson, the two delved into everything from the state of mainstream media to conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11 and supernatural phenomena. While I didn’t agree with everything they said, I appreciated the open and honest dialogue.

Veteran Advocacy and Support

As a Navy SEAL veteran, Shawn Ryan is passionate about supporting and advocating for the veteran community. Many of his guests are fellow vets who share their experiences transitioning back to civilian life and the challenges they’ve faced.

Ryan is also a proud member of Veteran Advocacy Services, an organization that helps veterans navigate the complexities of the VA system. Through his podcast and work with VAS, Ryan is making a real difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
